UPDATE ON THE 2021 BATAAN MEMORIAL DEATH MARCH

Bataan 2021 to be a Virtual Event

The 32nd annual Bataan Memorial Death March will be hosted virtually for the first time in event history. Marchers will be able to participate anytime between April 9 and April 18, 2021. The decision by White Sands Missile Range to host the event virtually allows leadership to keep COVID safety the top priority for participants, volunteers, staff and community supporters. It also gives participants the flexibility to choose a date and route that works best for them, while honoring the memory of World War II heroes.

On April 9, 1942 tens of thousands of American and Filipino Soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces and were forced to march more than 60 miles in the scorching heat through the Philippine jungles. Thousands died and those who survived faced the hardships of prisoner of war camps. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a challenging and grueling march that tests both mental and physical abilities. For the 2021 virtual experience, marchers are encouraged to choose a challenging stretch of road or trail in honor of the historical march. Marchers can choose between the full 26.2 mile marathon length or a 14.2 mile honorary distance.

The March officially kicks off on April 9, 2021, and participants may choose any day between April 9 and April 18, 2021 to complete their mileage. The March must be completed in one day. Returning marchers will find they will only need to select their distance for the 2021 March, as multiple categories are not necessary in a virtual environment. Event organizers still encourage participants to march in their own way, to include in uniform or with a “ruck” if desired and safe.

The registration fee includes a Bataan Marcher T-Shirt, Marcher Bib, Commemorative Dog Tag, and a Participation Medal. As with all virtual fitness events, the March is based on the honor system. Event organizers will not be tracking finishing times, instead focusing on the memorial aspect of the event. • No packet pick up the day of the march. You MUST pick up your packet and bib during our packet pick up dates. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you do not have a bib you can NOT do the march. If you do not have a bib you will be removed from the course by security.
• Refunds will NOT be authorized once registered nor will they be issued due to inclement weather or cancellation of the march. Specific situations such as military deployment or medical emergency will be taken into consideration, however the individual must contact us directly and provide appropriate documentation.
• You can NOT start the course if you arrive late. Be sure you are in your appropriate wave for the opening ceremony at 6:30 a.m., NO EXCEPTIONS for late starters.
• When you  arrive at White Sands Missile Range please allow extra time while at the gate because of security procedures. All vehicles are subject to search. Be prepared to show photo identification, vehicle registration and proof of insurance (or rental car contract). We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

The Bataan Memorial Death March has been CANCELLED

Due to the event being cancelled there will be no packet pickup. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.

After February 27th, changes may ONLY be made during packet pickup. All fees must be paid at that time.

There will be a $100 fee for converting a team registration to 5 individual registrations after February 27th.

There will be a $50 fee for any changes made to individual registrations after February 27th. This includes:

• Change to team members.
• Transfer of a bib number from one individual to another. This also requires a confirmation number.
• Changing an individual registration into a team registration will not be accepted at packet pickup. In the event that you have registered individually and would like to form a team instead, you must forfeit your individual registration and re-register your team. You will NOT receive a refund for the individual registration and must also pay the team registration fee. THIS MAY ONLY BE DONE PRIOR TO THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE.
